The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has appealed to the federal government to intervene in the NYSC scheme by providing adequate medical facilities for corps members in NYSC camps.
Chinonso Obasi, NANS President in a statement, urged President Buhari to direct the Director General of NYSC, Sule Kazaure to look into deplorable conditions of NYSC camps, addressing the issue of medical care.
Obasi blamed the incidence that befell two serving corp members who tragically lost their lives due to negligence and lack of proper medical services.
“It is unthinkable and sad that a common ailment like diarrhea should kill a first class graduate,”
“After toiling amidst very excruciating economic and social conditions to get some education, young Nigerians are left to die as if they were being trained for death.” Obasi lamented.
While sending his condolences on behalf of Nigerian students to the families of the deceased corps members, the NANS president said he is hopeful the government would do something about the situation.
Recently, two NYSC members died 48 hours from each other in their different camps due to lack for proper medical attention.
