Emmanuel Acheampong, a Ghanaian lecturer, has revealed that a Nigerian student sent her nude picture and phone number to him, in the bid to get marks.
Speaking in an interview on a Ghanaian radio station, Ahotor FM, the senior lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Business School, Acheampong recounted an occasion in which he was offered sex for grades.
Newsbreak.ng recalls that BBC Africa Eye investigation released a 13-minute video documentary, which had undercover reporters posing as students seeking help from lecturers in Nigerian and Ghanaian Universities.
The video exposed how female students are exploited and sexually harassed by male lecturers, in exchange for better grades and mentor-ship, which a Ghanaian lecturer, Gyampo, was caught in the act.
According to Information Nigeria, in his reaction to the undercover report, Acheampong said he met a Nigerian student who wanted to pass without studying.
“When I opened the paper, it was an empty sheet with her naked picture and telephone number under it. I called her and with my background as a Christian, I counselled her,” he revealed.
Acheampong also said he usually gives out questions before examinations, to avoid anything of the sort.
“This practice discourages students from coming to you,” he further said.
After the BBC releases the video, authority in the university said there was no enough evidence against their lecturers, but noted that it would investigate the allegation, while condemning the conducts of the lecturers.
