NYSC Deploys 879 Corps Members To Borno

No fewer than 879 corps members have registered for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation exercise in Borno.

Sada Yahaya, the NYSC Public Relations Officer in Borno, made this known in a statement issued in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

Yahaya quoted the state Coordinator, Rabiu Aminu, as saying that the corps members registered for the 2019 Batch C, Stream II exercise at the Borno State Temporary Orientation Camp, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Academy, Babbar Ruga, Katsina.

He noted that the registered corps members comprised of 459 males and 420 females.

Aminu urged the corps members to avail themselves the opportunities and learn from activities provided during the orientation exercise.

He sought for the state government’s support in the provision of a utility vehicle to enhance monitoring and supervision.

He also made an appeal for provision of hostels to accommodate increasing number of corps members posted to the state.

Aminu also advocated for effective measures to address delays and ensure prompt payment of allowances to corps members.

The coordinator noted that the number of corps members willing to serve in the state was on the increase, sequel to the return of normalcy and relative peace.

According to him, there was significant increase in the number of corps members deployed to the state.

He noted that this was in view of the government’s effort in providing good welfare package and adequate security measures put in place to safeguard the lives and property of corps members.

“You are ambassadors of the different states and communities you represent. Therefore, be mindful of the things you do so that you do not tarnish the image of those you represent.

“You are also expected to mingle, irrespective of your tribe, ethnic or religious prejudices, ’’ he said.

The coordinator commended the state government and other partners for their support to the scheme.

Also, Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno called on members of the NYSC to contribute toward promoting discipline and patriotism in the country.

Zulum, who was represented by Hassan Aminami, the Chairman, NYSC Governing Board, said that members of the scheme served as role models toward promoting discipline and patriotism in accordance with the objectives of the scheme.

He said that the state government accorded priority to the NYSC scheme, to fast track implementation of its social and economic transformation programmes.

While congratulating the corps members over successful completion of their studies, Zulum urged them to pay attention to the orientation programme.
