Suleman Ayuba, who claimed to be an orphan, has been remanded in prison after he pleaded guilty before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Minna to an attempted suicide.

The prosecution counsel, Daniel Ikwoche, told the Magistrate, Hauwa Yusuf, that one Badamosi Abdullahi reported the matter on August 23.

Ikwoche said the complainant, a noodles seller, alleged that the defendant around 7.ooam on the same day,  bought some food and poured a pack of poison into it and ate it.

He said the defendant, 19, became unconscious afterward and was taken to the hospital, where he was revived.

Ayuba admitted to taking rat poison in the bid to take his own life.

He pleaded guilty when the charges were read to him and begged the court for leniency.

”I wanted to take my life because life is too hard for me as an orphan,” he told the court.

Yusuf ordered that he should be remanded in prison pending his sentencing on September 16.
