Overflown River Sacks Hundreds, Submerges 50 Houses In Rivers

FloodOverflown Orashi River in Ahoada West Local Council Area of Rivers state, in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta region, has reportedly sacked 1,000 people and submerge 50 houses. The destruction was reported to have also affected farmlands and livestock, while those made homeless are sheltered in schools and some public buildings. Government’s emergency response team have reportedly provided the victims relief materials, while the National Emergency  Management  Agency (NEMA) admitted it had done nothing. NEMA’s excused itself, blaming their non-action on the manner the state’s emergency responders are handling the incident. The Nigerian Metrological Agency(NIMET) has warned  people living in the coastal areas to relocate due to heavy flooding this year.
