Tragedy occurred on Tuesday as Taiwo Kola Ojo, the Vice Chairman of the Kogi West senatorial district of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), died in strange circumstances.
Ojo slumped and died while playing lawn tennis, Bode Ogunmola, the Publicity Secretary of the Kogi State PDP, confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Ojo, a legal practitioner, was said to be a regular player of the game at the Sports Centre, Ogudu GRA, in Lagos where the incident happened about 5:55 pm.
The Sports Centre was said to be about a five-minute drive to his residence within the GRA.
The major opposition party in the state described Kola-Ojo’s death as “sudden and shocking”.
“He was until his death the Vice-Chairman of the party in Kogi West Senatorial district. He did his best to improve the fortunes of the party,” the statement partly read.
The statement said the unflinching contributions of the PDP Kogi West Vice Chairman to the growth and success of the party in the state would be greatly missed.
The PDP prayed to God to grant members of the immediate family, his extended family and the members of the party the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
