Ayuba Wabba, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has said the bombing of oil pipelines is threat to national security, which the federal government must tackle seriously. He deplored Niger Delta militants for the act in the wake of probe of ‘political leaders’ from the region. He urged the militants to rather dialogue and not confront the federal government. “Pipeline vandalism is highly condemnable; this should not be allowed to happen in a civilized society,’’ he said.
“ Our call is that the government should remain focus in its fight against corruption and it should not be tired by whatever pressure.
“We also want to appreciate what the security agencies have been able to do in terms of protecting the pipelines in the region, they should put in more efforts to contain the crisis.”
Wabba stated that vandalisation of pipelines would cause oil and water pollution, and reduce government revenues.
Wabba believes Niger Delta challenges would be properly addressed if the government sustains the amnesty programme, while assuring the labour union’s support for government’s anti-corruption fight.
