Police Siege At Ex-NDDC MD’s House, An Attempt To Abduct, Kill Her – Fani-Kayode

Femi Fani-Kayode, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, has reacted to the siege by police at the house of Joy Nunieh, former managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Men in police uniform on Thursday, at about 4.00am, invaded the Port Harcourt residence of Nunieh, who was supposed to appear before the House of Representatives panel few hours later, regarding the ongoing probe into the alleged  financial misapproprition in the commission.

Reports say she was meant to connect a morning flight to Abuja from the Rivers State capital.

However, she could not leave her house, until the state governor, Nyesom Wike, arrived the scene to rescue her.

In a tweet on the saga, Fani-Kayode said the invasion of Nunieh’s residence by the police was an attempt to kidnap and possibly kill her.

The former aviation minister described the action of the police as illegal, saying the invasion was done without a warrant, and was not authorised by the Inspector General of Police.

He praised Wike for the role he played, in ensuring that the woman is safe.

He wrote: “Gov. Wike saved Joy Nunieh’s life today. The police raid on her house at 4.00am was illegal & was NOT backed by a warrant or authorised by the I-G. It was simply an attempt to abduct & possibly kill her. Wike arrived on the scene, broke the siege & saved her life. I commend him.”
