Manchester United thrashed Watford 3-0 in a Premier League encounter at Old Trafford on Sunday.
New signing, Bruno Fernandes opened his goalscoring account for the Red Devils as the home team comfortably cruised to a win and recorded back-to-back Premier League wins.
Fernandes, bought by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last month to add creativity and drive to United’s midfield, scored from the penalty spot in the 42nd minute. Goalkeeper Ben Foster pulled down Fernandes in the box and Martin Atkinson pointed to the spot and the Portuguese midfielder picked himself up to convert the penalty.
The goal ended a 236-minute wait for a United home goal in the Premier League after they had failed to score against Burnley and Wolves.
Watford thought they were level shortly after half-time only to see Troy Deeney’s goal ruled out by VAR for a handball by Craig Dawson.
Anthony Martial scored an excellent second for United in the 58th minute. Foster had saved Martial’s initial shot but the ball came back to the French forward and he lofted the ball over the head of the goalkeeper and into the net from a tight angle.
Youngster Mason Greenwood lashed home his 11th of the season 15 minutes from time to complete United’s scoring.
United, who beat top-four rivals, Chelsea, on Monday, moved up to fifth position after Tottenham Hotspur lost on Saturday.
Despite their mini-revival, United have a tough run of fixtures coming up, with games against Everton, Manchester City, Tottenham and Sheffield United.
