The Presidency has confirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Professor Ibrahim Gambari as his new Chief of Staff.
Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), announced this at the virtual meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday, according to a Twitter post by Bashir Ahmad, the Personal Assistant to the President on New Media.

Several media reports on Tuesday had indicated that Gambari has been appointed by President Buhari, but the Presidency did not confirm the information.
Gambari, who hails from Kwara State succeeds Abba Kyari, who died of complications from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on 17 April.
The new chief of staff, a professor of Political Science and International Relations, served as minister of External Affairs from 1984 to 1985 under the military regime of Buhari.
He was also Nigeria’s ambassador to the UN from 1990-1995, serving under five heads of state.
He held several positions at the UN, such as the UN Under-Secretary-General and special adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Africa between 1999 and 2005.
