Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, has signed an emergency decree recommending child rapists to be chemically castrated or sentenced to death. Widodo announced the decree at the presidential palace on 25 May after the recent cases on rape and murder have teenagers as major victims.
“Extraordinary crime requires extraordinary measures. The decree also allows judges to hand down life sentences or death sentences to people convicted of child rape,’’ Widodo said.
