At least 10 persons were killed on Saturday after a pipeline exploded in Komkom community in the Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Sunday Punch reports that the explosion occurred while some employees of an unidentified company were working on one of the pipelines.
It remains unclear which company the pipelines belong to. Reports had claimed they belong to Shell Petroleum Development Company while others said the facility was the property of the Petroleum Product Marketing Company.
Gerald Oforji, the Chairman of Oyigbo LGA, told Sunday Punch that corpses of the deceased were pulled out from the accident scene after the fire was put out.
Oforji said no house was destroyed during the incident.
However, Nnamdi Omoni, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said the number of casualty was not yet established. He said investigation was ongoing.
President Muhammadu Buhari has called for an investigation into the incident.
