Senator Bukola Saraki, the Senate President, has publicly released the details of the National Assembly’s provisions in the 2018 budget.
The Senate President published the legislature’s budget on his verified Twitter page on Friday, in response to a request made by BudgIT, a civil society organisation.

Senator Saraki noted the release of the legislature’s budget is in “accordance with the commitment of the leadership of the 8th @NASSNigeria to accountability and transparency.”
According to the released budget details, the total allocation estimated for the National Assembly for last year’s budget was N139.5 billion.
The Senate received its allocation totalled to N35.582 billion, while the House of Representatives got N57.425 billion.
In terms of the total personnel cost, which includes the salary and allowances of elected lawmakers, the upper chamber received N1.856 billion, while the lower chamber got N4.923 billion.
BudgITng, which describes itself civic tech organisation with emphasis on monitoring public finance, has been at the forefront in demanding the release of the National Assembly’s budget in previous years.
The group had met with the Senate President on Thursday, asking the Senate President to leave the National Assembly by creating a legacy of releasing the parliament’s details for the public consumption of Nigerians and making such practice mandatory via a law.
