#SexForGrades: UNILAG Shuts Senior Staff’s ‘Cold Room’

Following the revelation in the #SexForGrades documentary video released by BBC African Eye on how lecturers sexually abuse students in ‘cold room’, the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has shut down the location.

Taiwo Oloyede, the Principal Assistant Registrar, Communication Unit of the university, made the announcement on Monday.

The ‘cold room’ was mentioned by Boniface Igbeneghu, one of the lecturers of the institution indicted in the secretly filmed video by the undercover reporter, as where lecturers sexually abuse female students.

In the documentary, Igbeneghu described the room as a place where lecturers meet to “touch students’ breast” at the staff club of the university.

According to him, “nothing good comes free” and the ‘cold room’ experience is the price some female students have to pay to have good grades.

He and another lecturer, Samuel Oladipo, exposed in the video, have been suspended by the school management hours after the release of the documentary.

The management of the institution has vowed to investigate the matter, noting that it does not condone such behaviours displayed by the lecturers.
