Abubakar Shekau, leader of Boko Haram, has ordered his fellow terrorists across Africa to murder Isa Pantami, Communications Minister, anywhere they find him.
He issued this threat in a video released on Thursday.
Speaking in Hausa, the terrorists chief, said Pantami, who is an Islamic scholar, has no right to speak for the religion. He said the minister works for infidels.
He criticised Pantami’s new policy of restricting each subscriber to only three phone numbers. The policy is said to be aimed at checking activities of criminals and terrorists.
Shekau reminded Pantami of the fate of Jaafar Adam, a renowned Salafi cleric that was assassinated in his mosque in Kano, and called on terrorists across Africa to target him saying, “My brothers in Africa, Nigeria or elsewhere, what happened to Jaafar is nothing, take action on Isa Ali Pantami wherever you find him.”
He also threatened Audu Bulama Bukarti, a human rights lawyer and leading Boko Haram expert, warning him that he would never have peace.
Bukarti became a target for Boko Haram because of his insightful analyses on Boko Haram and other violent extremist groups across the Africa and his use of Islamic text to counter-extremism. He is a regular guest on the media and has published widely on Boko Haram in Nigeria, the United States and the United Kingdom.
