Six suspected militants have reportedly been killed in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, ONELGA, of Rivers State, during a gun battle between them and a vigilante group in the Omoku area of the state on Monday. The gun battle was said to have lasted for several hours.
It is presumed that the leader of the militants, Ejima Igwedibia, alias Don Wanny, narrowly escaped being killed. The vigilance group, under the aegis ONELGA Security Planning and Advisory Committee, OSPAC, began hunt for the militants after they had allegedly killed two persons at Okposi, four in Omoku and three others at Obrikom area of the state over the weekend, The Guardian reports. Some of the victims were said to be members of OSPAC.
OSPAC members, who are credited to have restored stability to Omoku and parts of ONELGA, were said to have stormed one Don Wanny’s residence in Aligwu, a coastal community, in the early hours of Sunday. He was found to have escaped through some lieutenants via river behind the house.
