Austin “Jay Jay” Okocha, a former Super Eagles captain, has claimed that some Nigerian footballers reduce their age by 10 years.
Okocha said it is the reason why some of the players don’t retire in time, because they have to play for as long as it takes to justify the age they claim.
The ex-Eagles midfielder revealed in an interview earlier this year, that he retired from football in 2007 after a brief spell at Hull City in England, to avoid being benched always.
The 1994 AFCON winner, has now come out to say he feels sorry for Nigerian players who don’t declare their actual age.
“Sometimes you don’t have to blame them because when ever you wake up is your morning,” he told Brilafm in an interview on Thursday.
“I pity some of them them, that is why they cannot retire. They want to justify that age.
“Some of us retired at the age of 28, some can’t retire at the age of 34, that is why they are still playing. Between us, some of them reduce their age, even up to 10 years.
“It is hard, but what do we do?”
