Striking UCH Workers Shut Facility

Employees of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Monday morning shut the gate at patients and staff to prevent entry into the health facility. The aggrieved workers comprise security men and cleaners protesting 11 months unpaid salaries.

The agitation reportedly led to a gridlock on the adjoining roads. The PUNCH claimed an anonymous source accused UCH’s Chief Medical Director, Temitope Alonge, of deliberately withholding the workers’ salaries.

“Our line of work is difficult but highly important to the hospital. We deserve better than what we get. We call on the Federal Government to prevail on the hospital management to have pity on us,” the source was quoted as saying.
