Super Eagles central defender, William Troost-Ekong, has joined Italian Serie A club, Udinese, from Bursaspor of Turkey for a reported fee of €3.3 million. Bursaspor had announced Ekong’s departure from the club with a farewell message on their twitter handle. The defender played 33 times for the Turkish club, scoring three goals. “Thank you @WTroostEkong ,” a tweet from Bursaspor’s official Twitter handle reads. He joined Bursaspor from Gent in 2017 for €1million, after previously playing for Tottenham Hotspur, Groningen, Dordrecht, KAA Gent and Haugesund. Ekong represented Holland at Under-19 and Under-21 levels, before switching allegiance to Nigeria at the senior level. He has since won 24 senior caps for the Super Eagles, scoring one goal. He was part of Nigeria’s dream team that won bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic games. He played all the matches for Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
