Supreme Court Affirms Ikpeazu’s Election

Okezie Ikpeazu is the duly elected governor of Abia state, the Supreme Court affirmed, on Friday. A five-man Supreme Court panel, led Walter Onnoghen, chief of justice of Nigeria (CJN), faulted an earlier ruling by the High Court, which sacked Ikpeazu. The lower court, presided by Justice Okon Abang, based its sacking of Ikpeazu on alleged forged tax documents the latter was said said to have presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, prior to the election. However, the Supreme Court said Ikpeazu couldn’t have been held responsible for the discrepancies in his tax documents because there were given to him by the state.

The Supreme Court dismissed the suit filed by Ikpeazu’s challenger, Uche Ogah.
