Supreme Court Halts Constitutional Amendment

The Supreme Court, Thursday, stopped the National Assembly from continuing with its bid to amend the 1999 Constitution.

In a ruling, the seven-man panel of justices of the court, headed by Justice Mahmud Mohammed, Chief Justice of Nigeria, ordered the National Assembly to maintain status quo until 18 June.

The court further directed that the National Assembly be issued a hearing notice to appear before the court in a suit filed against its proposed amendment by President Goodluck Jonathan.
