Supreme Court Upholds Ishaku’s Election

The Supreme Court has validated the election of the governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The court dismissed the All Progressives Congress’ candidate, Aisha Jumai Alhassan’s appeal against the ruling of the Appeal Court. It, however, reserved its reason for the judgment till 22 February.

Alhassan had asked the apex court to set aside the verdict of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal which earlier upheld governor Ishaku’s election. The appellate court had on 31 December, 2015 reversed the judgment of the Taraba State Governorship Elections Tribunal which had declared her winner. The tribunal had made the declaration based on allegations that Ishaku was not well nominated by the PDP to be its flag bearer.
