Teenager In Court For Stealing N500,000

A 19-year-old man, Daniel Obehi, on Thursday, was arraigned  before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N500,000 from one Ahmed Saka.

Prosecutor Tony Elibeh, told the court that the Obehi in the company of others at large, into the complainant’s apartment through the roof and stole the money from his wardrobe

He said that the suspect was caught by Saka’s neighbour while trying to escape.

“The complainant’s neighbour raised alarm and other tenants in the building came out and apprehended Obehi while still struggling to escape.

“When the complainant got back home, he notified the police and handed over the accused to them, while Obehi’s accomplices escaped with the money,” Elibeh said.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.

Section 287 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 307 stipulates seven years imprisonment for burglary.

The accused pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and burglary.

The Chief magistrate, Titus Abolarinwa, however, admitted the accused to bail of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Abolarinwa adjourned further hearing in the case till August 2.
