Two female tenants identified simply as Mercy and Rose have allegedly abducted their landlord’s children in the Ovia North-East Local Government of Edo State. The children, identified as Amada, 4 and 2-year-old Christabel, were left with the tenants by their mother who went to a stream to wash her clothes. It was gathered that the women, who moved into the community about three weeks ago told their landlord they were into farming and hairdressing. Southern City News reports that some of the residents had informed the victims’ parents that they saw the women flagging down vehicles on the highway but thought they were taking the children on an outing. Also, it was discovered that the two women had fled with their belongings, when the door of their room was forced open. The mother of the children, Faith Osaruoname, said that she usually left her children with the tenants when she was not around. Faith stated, “I thought the girls would soon return home with my children, so I went to cook. After cooking, I wanted to go and get some water again when my husband came back. “He asked me about the children and I told him they went out with the tenants. I later ran out to look for them but did not find them. I have been calling the numbers of those girls and they were switched off.” Her husband, Omokpia expressed shock over the incident as it was unusual for his children not to be around to welcome him home. The police had yet to confirm the incident as at the time of filing this report.
