Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk, who was named UEFA Player of the year last week, has been nominated alongside teammates, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah by FIFA in the 10-man shortlist for the best player award this year.
Other players who made the list are Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane and Real Madrid forward, Eden Hazard.
They are joined by Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi, Juventus forward, Cristiano Ronaldo and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe.
Highly-rated young Dutch sensations, Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt, who shone for Ajax in their Eredivisie triumph last season and their run to the Champions League semi-finals, are also included.
The three finalists will be announced in the coming weeks, with the winner to be named at the Best FIFA Football Awards show, which will hold in Milan on September 23.
The three-man shortlist for Men’s Coach of the Year is one of eight awards that will be announced at the event. Only Premier League managers made the list, with Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino making the cut.
Liverpool goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, Manchester City’s Ederson and Barcelona’s Andre Ter Stegen, are the final three shortlist in their category.
The award would be given to winners based on their performance in the last one year.
