Two men, Abdullahi Ayinla Rasheed, 28 and Ayuba Rilwan, 29, were Wednesday remanded in prison after appearing before an Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for allegedly stabbing a man to death on New Year day.
The defendants, also called ‘Inspector’ and ‘Babaiyan’ are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder. They were said to have killed the deceased, Shefiu Jagun, on Arumo Street, Ajegunle, Apapa area of Lagos around 1am on the said day.
It was gathered that the accused got into an argument with Jagun, who until his death was friends with his killers. The argument degenerated into a fight among the three friends resulting in a scuffle.
Rasheed and Rilwan were said to have stabbed 27-year-old Jagun in his neck and chest with a knife and abandoned his wounded body on the street. Jagun allegedly died because he lost too much blood before he was rushed to the hospital.
The prosecution said the offence contravened and punishable under Sections 233 and 223 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
However, the defendants’ plea was not taken due to the weight of their crime.
The presiding magistrate, H.O. Omisore, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending advice from the department of public prosecution. The case was adjourned till February 2018, for mention.
