Abdullahi Muhammadu, the Commandant-General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has explained why an officer of the corps refused to allow Elizabeth Karatu, a judge of the Kebbi State High Court, entry into her courtroom.
Muhammadu said the entrance was blocked by the state government and the operative had been deployed to enforce the order. He revealed that a letter had been written by the state Judicial Council to that effect.
Muhammadu said that he had summoned the state commandant to Abuja to look into the matter.
Karatu, who was billed to retire on July 5, was scheduled to rule on cases on July 4, her last day in office, but a viral video showed the civil defence officer denying her access to her courtroom.
Until her retirement, she was the most senior judge in Kebbi State judiciary but was reportedly denied confirmation as the substantive chief judge by the state House of Assembly.
