A woman, Veronica Green Posey, 64, has been charged for allegedly choking her nine-year-old cousin, Dericka Lindsay, to death in Florida, United States. She was said to have sat on the deceased till she lost her breath and died. She claimed that Lindsay had been out of control forcing her to sit on her.
The deceased was said to have complained of difficulty in breathing but was ignored till she died.
Posey is facing possible life sentence if she is convicted. She has been handed a $125,000 bail.
The girl’s parents Grace Smith and James Smith also face neglect charges. Mike Carroll, secretary of the Florida Department of Children and Families, issued a statement, describing the girl’s death as “appalling.” He said the agency will work with the sheriff’s office to hold those responsible for her death accountable.
